Solar cooker for a green shack

Solar cooker for a green shack

Because a green shack doesn’t offer you an electricity, you will have to find some other way to power your devices and appliances. This is even more important when you want to prepare meals. One of the best, green ways to do this is a solar cooker. These devices are low-tech, which means they don’t use modern technology and they are affordable. All you need. They don’t use any fuel so many organizations promote their use worldwide. You can choose between many different types. Some of the most used are: parabolic solar cookers, panel cookers and solar ovens.

Solar cookers work on these three principles:
1.    Their surface is mirrored, so it is used to harvest the sunlight and concentrate it on a small cooking area. Temperatures reached can melt salt and can smelt metal. But for a green shack you don’t need solar cooker that can reach this temperature. You will need a solar cooker that can reach baking temperatures (65°C) and grilling temperatures (400°C).
2.    Solar cookers convert sunlight into heat. That heat is concentrated onto a receiver. For example, on a cooking pan. Materials used can retain and conduct heat. All of the receivers should be matte black, in order to maximize the effect.
3.    It is important to isolate the air inside a cooker and eliminate the cooler air from getting in. This is done in order to trap heat energy that is used for baking or grilling.
Solar cookers are something that is very important, especially if you live in a green shack. They are cheap and they last long. If you know a thing or two, you can make your own.
